On Sunday 27 July 2025, the Merrylands RSL Club was alight with pride, applause and celebration as it hosted the Cumberland & Parramatta Young Champions Awards Gala High Tea. The event welcomed finalists, their families, sponsors and supporters to honour youth excellence within the Greater Cumberland and Parramatta LGAs.

Doors opened at 3:20 pm, allowing guests to mingle over canapés and refreshments in the club’s elegant function space. At 4:00 pm, the formal proceedings commenced—a two-and-a-half-hour celebration filled with inspiring speeches, entertainment, and the presentation of awards.

Approximately 100 finalists aged under 19 were acknowledged across more than 20 diverse award categories, spanning fields such as academia, performing arts, sport, innovation, leadership and community service. Each received a medal and certificate, and all finalists were granted entry to a complimentary leadership workshop designed to enhance their confidence and professional development.

The audience included local dignitaries, sponsors, and community leaders from Rainbow Crossing Incorporated and the Greater Cumberland Chamber of Commerce. The atmosphere was vibrant, with live performances and heartfelt speeches reflecting the inspiring journeys of the young finalists.

While a full list of 2025 winners has yet to be published, the ceremony maintained its tradition of showcasing extraordinary youth who have excelled in their fields. Previous winners such as Antonia Kyriakos and Sienna Kong have set a high bar, and this year’s recipients continued that legacy of excellence and community engagement.

Oz Arab Media was proudly represented by Elie Kaltoum, reflecting the publication’s ongoing support for youth empowerment and multicultural excellence. His presence highlighted the media organisation’s commitment to amplifying the stories of young leaders making a difference in their communities.

Organised by Rainbow Crossing Incorporated, founded by local community leader Brian Laul, the Young Champions Awards provide a vital platform for recognising and nurturing young talent. The awards are not only a celebration but a launchpad—offering leadership development, visibility, and encouragement to continue pursuing positive change.

By uniting the community in celebration of youth achievement, the event fosters a sense of pride, aspiration and mutual respect. These young champions represent the future of the region—and through this platform, they are empowered to continue leading and inspiring.
