The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a proposal that would permit Iran to carry out only “token” levels of uranium enrichment, on the strict condition that no conceivable pathway to a nuclear weapon remains, according to Middle East Eye. This limited approach hints at a narrow diplomatic opening between Washington and Tehran, even as military options remain under review.

Officials have indicated that any Iranian proposal will face significant hurdles, requiring the ability to convince skeptics within the Trump administration and among regional governments. One senior official noted that President Trump is open to a deal that is substantive and politically viable domestically, emphasizing that Iran must present an offer that cannot be refused.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran’s plan would be completed within “two or three days”. However, U.S. and Israeli officials warned that Trump could initiate military strikes as early as the upcoming weekend. Despite the ongoing military buildup in the region, some of Trump’s advisers have called for restraint, arguing that the current military posture enhances U.S. leverage.

Araghchi stated that Iran’s goal is to ensure its nuclear program remains peaceful and that it is ready to take “confidence-building measures” in exchange for relief from sanctions. He emphasized that Iran’s proposal would include political commitments and technical measures, shaped partly by guidance from UN nuclear watchdog chief Raphael Grossi.

As diplomatic discussions continue, tensions have escalated, particularly following the deployment of additional U.S. military assets in the Middle East. The situation remains fluid as both sides navigate the complexities of potential agreements and military strategies.
