According to BBC News, Trent Rockets beat Birmingham Phoenix by nine wickets after bowling them out for 64 in the women’s Hundred at Edgbaston.
Phoenix’s total, made from 95 balls, was the joint second-lowest in the Women’s Hundred. Ellyse Perry made 39 from 33 balls, but no other Phoenix batter reached double figures. Phoenix also hold the competition’s lowest-total record after being dismissed for 54 against Northern Superchargers, now Sunrisers Leeds, in 2024.
Debutant Samantha Bates, an uncapped Australian spinner, led the Rockets bowlers with 3-10. Georgia Elwiss took 3-13, Kim Garth returned 2-5 and Katie Levick claimed 1-8. Ash Gardner dropped Perry on nine, the Rockets’ only blemish in a one-sided contest.
Sophia Dunkley then dominated the chase, finishing unbeaten on 43 from 17 balls. Rockets reached 68-1 in only 31 balls, with Lauren Filer taking the sole wicket for Phoenix and returning 1-17.
The result continued a difficult start for batters in the first four women’s matches. London Spirit were bowled out for 80 in their opening match on Thursday, while Southern Brave’s 126 is the highest total so far and was successfully defended against Welsh Fire.
