Prominent politician Hassan Turk, the head of the Democratic Union Party and a member of the Egyptian Political Parties Alliance, stated in press remarks today in Cairo that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s speech during the Labor Day celebration represents a significant shift in the approach to labor in Egypt. It genuinely outlines a comprehensive roadmap to enhance the status of Egyptian workers and establish the foundations of social justice amid regional and international economic challenges.
Turk added that the presidential directives included an unprecedented package of measures that clearly favor workers, particularly those in informal employment. He highlighted that the allocation of an exceptional monthly grant of 1,500 EGP for informal workers over three months is a direct intervention to alleviate their living burdens. Additionally, exemptions from fees for skill assessments and licenses for practicing various trades contribute to their integration into the formal economy and the expansion of social protection.
He further pointed out that the decision to increase compensation for fatalities in workplace accidents to 300,000 EGP, along with raising disability compensation, reflects the state’s appreciation for the value of workers and its commitment to safeguarding their rights. This comes alongside the launch of a labor market platform as a modern tool to connect job opportunities both domestically and abroad, while also enhancing the training efficiency of youth according to market needs.
Turk emphasized that the president’s directive to form permanent committees comprising the ministries of labor, industry, investment, and planning, alongside education and technical education, signifies a qualitative leap in managing employment issues. This approach aims to achieve integration between educational outputs and labor market requirements, ensuring the preparation of qualified personnel capable of competing regionally and internationally.
He clarified that the president’s emphasis on localizing industry and promoting the “Made in Egypt” slogan reflects a strategic vision for building a robust economy and reducing reliance on imports. This initiative opens the door to creating hundreds of thousands of job opportunities and enhances the state’s ability to achieve economic security.
In conclusion, Turk stated in his press remarks that President El-Sisi consistently stands with workers and low-income individuals, making their welfare a central concern. Ultimately, he affirmed, “Long live Egypt, long live Egypt, long live Egypt.”
