NSW Shadow Minister for Education Prue Car is calling on the Perrottet Government to explain why the state’s teachers and school staff have been excluded from the covid bonus payment.
Health workers will receive a covid bonus payment in recognition of their exceptional service during the pandemic.
The NSW Opposition says teachers and school staff should not have been overlooked.
Prue Car, NSW Shadow Minister for Education said:
“Teachers were tasked with the challenge of keeping our children learning and on track with their studies through lockdowns and disruption.
“Critically, they have now placed themselves at the frontline ensuring our schools remain open.
“This is despite the impacts of widespread covid cases and staff shortages on an already overworked workforce.
“Teachers deserve better from the NSW Government, and it’s not too late for the government to act.”
Sophie Cotsis, NSW Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations said:
“While this announcement acknowledges the significant efforts of health staff during the pandemic, the government appears to be pitting one group of workers against another.
“The Government must answer why it has not extended the same praise and reward to other important essential workers who have kept the community going through this pandemic.”
