South Africa continued their unbeaten run in the 2026 T20 World Cup with a commanding nine-wicket victory over the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Aiden Markram played a pivotal role, scoring 82 not out from 46 balls, which included seven fours and four sixes. This win allows South Africa to move two points clear at the top of Group 1 in the Super 8s, edging them closer to the semi-finals.

According to BBC News, South Africa successfully chased down a target of 177 runs with 23 balls to spare. The innings began with a solid 95-run opening partnership between Markram and Quinton de Kock, who contributed 47 runs off 24 balls before being dismissed by Roston Chase in the eighth over.

The West Indies struggled early in their innings, losing four wickets during the powerplay and slipping to 83-7. However, Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder mounted a late recovery, adding 89 runs for the eighth wicket to help their team reach a total of 176-8. Shepherd finished with an unbeaten 52 off 37 balls, while Holder scored 49 runs off 31 balls before being run out.

Despite the late resurgence from the West Indies, South Africa’s bowlers, particularly Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada, proved effective in the early stages of the match, taking two wickets each. This victory places South Africa on the verge of the semi-finals, while the West Indies face a crucial match against India, knowing that a defeat could eliminate them from the tournament.
