The Alexandria University has referred a Facebook post by a resident doctor alleging that female patients at the Shatby Maternity Hospital were subjected to “unethical practices” during childbirth to an urgent investigation.
The doctor claimed in a Facebook post that patients at the hospital were subjected to sexual harassment, verbal and physical abuse, bullying and medical negligence.
She called for investigating what is happening inside the hospital. Her post have sparked a great deal of interaction among social media users.
The Egyptian medical Syndicate said that it has not received any official complaints regarding the incident and demanded that deterrent legal measures be taken against the perpetrators if the allegations are proven.
The syndicate emphasized its categorical rejection of any attempt to undermine the efforts of Egyptian doctors or to question their significant and recognized role in patient care.
It clarified that any professional misconduct or mistake, if proven after official investigations, must be dealt with firmly and transparently, ensuring justice for those affected and holding those responsible accountable according to the law and all professional and ethical standards.
The Alexandria University issued an official statement confirming that the incident had been referred for investigation, noting that patient dignity and safety and the preservation of professional ethics are firmly established principles that can not be trampled on under any circumstances.
