Sean Penn has been gifted an Oscar-shaped award made from war-damaged rail metal by Ukraine, after he skipped the recent Academy Awards ceremony to visit the war-torn country. The actor, who won his third Academy Award for his supporting actor role in political thriller ‘One Battle Another,’ was absent from the ceremony.

According to BBC News, the award was presented to Penn by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, the CEO of Ukrainian Railways. Pertsovskyi remarked, “You’re missing Oscars… So we made this one. This is from the railcar that was damaged by the Russians.”

Penn, a long-time advocate for Ukraine, has made several visits to the country since the Kremlin launched its full-scale invasion four years ago. Notably, he previously gifted one of his Oscars to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022, demonstrating his support for Ukraine during ongoing conflicts.

The unique award symbolizes both the destruction caused by the war and the resilience of the Ukrainian people, reinforcing Penn’s commitment to raising awareness about the situation in Ukraine.
