Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest occurred at Sandringham, Norfolk, on Thursday at 08:00 GMT, with police conducting searches at locations in both Norfolk and Berkshire. The former prince remains in custody as investigations continue.

According to BBC News, King Charles III has expressed his support for the police, stating that the “law must take its course”. This incident marks the first time Andrew has been arrested, following ongoing scrutiny over his connections to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and allegations regarding the sharing of confidential information.

The police’s investigation stems from previous claims that Andrew shared sensitive government reports with Epstein during his tenure as the UK’s trade envoy. Allegations have also emerged suggesting that Epstein sent a woman to the UK for a sexual encounter with Andrew in 2010. However, the current arrest is not related to any allegations of sexual offences.

King Charles, who learned of his brother’s arrest with “the deepest concern,” emphasized the need for a proper investigation. He noted that both he and Buckingham Palace were not informed in advance about the arrest, which coincidentally took place on Andrew’s 66th birthday. Despite the unfolding situation, the royal family has opted to maintain their public engagements.

The arrest has drawn significant public interest, with Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright acknowledging the case’s prominence. Meanwhile, former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has submitted new information to police concerning the Epstein files, advocating for justice for trafficked individuals. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing related to his association with Epstein, and it remains to be seen how this latest development will unfold.
