Russian-Venezuelan relations are of a strategic partnership nature, believes Vladimir Putin. The Russian President congratulated Nicolas Maduro on his re-election as President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The Russian leader expressed confidence that Maduro’s activities as head of state will continue to contribute to the progressive development of bilateral relations in all areas, which meets the interests of the peoples of Russia and Venezuela and serves the formation of a more just world order.

Vladimir Putin also confirmed his readiness to continue constructive joint work on current issues on the bilateral and international agenda.

“Remember that you are always a welcome guest on Russian soil”, concluded Vladimir Putin. The text of the congratulations was distributed by the Kremlin press service.

Maduro won 51.2 percent of the vote in Sunday’s election, while his main rival, opposition leader Edmundo González, received 44.2 percent of the vote.

Russian Ambassador to the Bolivarian Republic, Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov, called this victory “convincing” and noted that it “will serve the development of a broad domestic political dialogue, which the Venezuelan leader spoke about during the election campaign”.
