Paul Scholes has clarified that his recent Instagram post regarding Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick was not meant to offend. Following United’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United last Wednesday, Scholes commented on the team’s poor performance, stating that Carrick has something special about him.

According to BBC News, Scholes faced criticism for his remarks, with former teammate Patrice Evra expressing concern that Scholes may have been hacked. Scholes addressed the situation on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, explaining that he had reached out to Carrick to clarify his intentions.

“It was in no way intended to be offensive towards Michael,” Scholes stated. He emphasized that Carrick is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in football and that he did not wish to upset him. Carrick, who took over after the sacking of Ruben Amorim, was previously unbeaten in his first seven matches but has seen a decline in performance recently.

Scholes noted that his comments were misinterpreted, adding that he was merely pointing out that the team had not performed well in their last four games, despite achieving results. He reiterated that luck plays a role in football, referencing advice from legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Former teammate Wes Brown shared his perspective on Scholes’ comments, acknowledging that the initial interpretation could suggest criticism of Carrick’s management. Scholes clarified that he was praising Carrick’s talent in achieving results with a team that, for the last four games, had not been playing very well.
