The NSW Liberal Government faces more questions about its five year old promise to deliver Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 after Transport Minister David Elliott admitted that no business case for the project existed.

Just weeks ago, Minister Elliott held a press conference where he promised that the business case for stage 2 would mandate the use of Australian made light rail vehicles.

But he failed to tell the media and the public a crucial detail – that no business case existed.

Today David Elliot was asked about Federal funding for the project and he admitted:
“I don’t have a business case yet. I don’t have a definitive cost yet. So you can’t go and ask somebody for money when you don’t know how much it’s going to cost or where it’s going to go.”

Acting NSW Labor Leader Prue Car MP:

“One thing is clear about Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2: It’s that whatever Minister Elliott and the Government say about it just can’t be believed.

“This project was first promised to the people of Western Sydney five years ago. Nothing’s been done since. It’s been taken out of the budget, put back in the budget, they claimed they were putting Australian made trams in the business case and now we find out there’s no business case.

“The residents of Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park and Wentworth Point have had enough of this. People bought homes, opened businesses and made investments along the proposed route. This Liberal Government’s failure to be honest with them is not good enough.”
