Arabic version: موضة الرجال تتحدى موجة الحر مع الاستمرار في ارتداء الجينز
As the UK experiences soaring temperatures, some men are opting for jeans despite the heat. Andy Burnham, a prominent figure, showcased his ‘cool dad’ style by wearing dark jeans and a dark blue T-shirt while attending a ceremony in London to be sworn in as MP for Makerfield. According to The Guardian, this choice reflects a broader trend seen during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, where attendees also donned jeans despite the sweltering conditions.
Dior, adapting to the extreme weather, moved its fashion show to the morning but its designer, Jonathan Anderson, maintained his signature look of vintage Levi’s jeans paired with Salomon trainers. This commitment to denim is echoed by increased sales; John Lewis reported a 3% rise in Nudie jeans sales and a staggering 200% increase for Edwin jeans week over week.
Fashion experts suggest that the preference for jeans over shorts is tied to a reluctance among men to embrace the latter, which has become a contentious topic in fashion. Henrik Lischke, Grazia’s fashion news and features director, noted that jeans are seen as a simpler option for summer attire. Furthermore, Andrew Groves, a menswear professor, argues that this trend is linked to traditional notions of masculinity, where comfort takes a backseat to established norms.
Despite the heat, some wearers argue that jeans, made from breathable cotton, can be comfortable in warm weather. Style director Zak Maoui shared that wearing jeans protects against sunburn, which adds to their appeal during the summer. Fashion choices, such as pairing jeans with untucked shirts for ventilation, reflect a practical approach to summer dressing.
The ongoing preference for jeans raises questions about a potential backlash against the current fashion trend favoring shorts. While shorts can be stylish, Lischke suggests they might be better suited for casual settings like gardens or beaches, indicating that there is still a place for denim even in the heat.
