South Australian Labor has launched its state election campaign, focusing on housing commitments, including a new land purchase fund aimed at boosting housing development. Premier Peter Malinauskas announced the initiative during a rally at the Adelaide Convention Centre. According to ABC News, the scheme will involve a $500 million fund to acquire land for future housing projects, with potential sites identified including the Department of Defence’s Warradale and Hampstead barracks.

Malinauskas also proposed abolishing stamp duty for baby boomers who sell their homes to move into new builds. He stated that this policy would help free up larger homes for younger buyers. The Premier emphasized that the fund would allow for perpetual land purchases, ensuring that the money from on-sold land is reinvested back into housing initiatives.

The campaign launch comes as Labor faces scrutiny over its health policies, particularly regarding the ramping crisis in the state’s healthcare system. The Liberal Party has criticized Labor’s track record, questioning the effectiveness of its commitments. Malinauskas defended his party’s achievements, claiming improvements in emergency response times since taking office.

In addition to Labor, One Nation also launched its campaign this weekend, with leaders expressing optimism about their growing support. The South Australian election is set for March 21, marking a critical moment for all parties involved as they seek to engage voters on key issues like housing and healthcare.
