Authorities in Texas are investigating a mass shooting that occurred outside Buford’s bar in downtown Austin on March 1, 2026, as a potential act of terrorism. The shooting left two dead, including the suspect, and injured 14 others, some critically. According to The Guardian, the suspect, Ndiaga Diagne, 53, was shot and killed by police after he opened fire at the bar, which is frequented by university students.

Detectives, along with the FBI’s joint terrorism taskforce (JTTF), are examining Diagne’s motives and any possible connections to organized groups. Although they described him as a “lone actor,” FBI special agent Alex Doran indicated there were signs suggesting a potential nexus to terrorism. The investigation has intensified following recent US airstrikes in Iran, which have raised fears of further attacks.

Diagne, a naturalized US citizen originally from Senegal, was reportedly wearing a hoodie with the phrase “Property of Allah” and had a T-shirt featuring an Iranian flag design. Social media posts attributed to him expressed support for the Iranian regime and animosity towards Israeli and American leadership, dating back to 2017.

In light of the shooting, security measures have been heightened across major US cities. The FBI director announced that agents are working continuously to ensure public safety, while local authorities in cities like New York and Los Angeles have increased patrols and urged residents to remain vigilant. Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has also initiated measures to protect communities, emphasizing a strong response to any threats linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
