The Islamic Charity Projects Association (ICPA) held its 31st Annual Ramadan Dinner, bringing together a distinguished assembly of community leaders, politicians, and supporters for a night of reflection, unity, and celebration. The event, a hallmark of Sydney’s multicultural calendar, showcased the resilience and solidarity of the Muslim community while highlighting the importance of charity and service.

The evening began with the call to prayer and a communal dinner, followed by the official program, which featured Quranic recitation and the national anthem. Attendees were then addressed by key figures, including ICPA President Mr. Mohammed Mehio and Dr. Sheikh Salim Alwan, Chairman of Darulfatwa.

A highlight of the night was the presence of Her Excellency, the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, who delivered a speech recognising the significant contributions of the ICPA to Australian society. Other notable speakers included Hon. Tony Burke MP, representing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and representatives from various political parties, including NSW Premier Hon. Chris Minns, the Opposition Leader, and the Greens. Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Clr. Bilal El-Hayek also addressed the audience, reaffirming the importance of community-driven initiatives.

One notable absence was Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Hon. Jihad Dib, who could not attend due to the ongoing impacts of Cyclone Alfred. His absence was acknowledged by several speakers, who expressed their concerns for those affected by the natural disaster.

The event concluded with a message of unity and gratitude, reinforcing the values of Ramadan—compassion, generosity, and faith. As the ICPA continues its charitable efforts, the Ramadan Dinner remains a testament to the enduring spirit of service within the community.

Oz Arab Media was represented at the event by Charbel Tadros and Elie Kaltoum.
