Hannah Cox has successfully completed an extraordinary challenge of running 100 marathons in 100 consecutive days across India. Her journey, which began on October 26, 2023, took her from the Attari-Wagah border to Kolkata, following a historic route linked to the British salt tax imposed during their colonial rule.
According to BBC News, Cox’s inspiration for this ambitious project stemmed from her father’s death in 2011 and her growing fascination with her Indian heritage. After joining a local running club in Manchester, she slowly built her endurance through various running challenges, including running seven marathons in seven days.
Cox faced numerous obstacles during her journey, including extreme weather conditions, illness, and the chaotic traffic of Indian roads. She often ran through rural areas and encountered wildlife, even requiring police escorts in regions known for tiger attacks. Despite these challenges, she was determined to complete her goal and raise £1 million for various environmental charities.
Throughout her runs, Cox maintained a rigorous nutrition plan, consuming meals that included rice, eggs, and local dishes. Her support team, which included a driver, a helper, and a podiatrist, followed her in a van, providing assistance and ensuring her needs were met. Cox reported that her feet remained in good condition despite the grueling nature of the challenge.
While the journey included moments of glamour, such as meeting Richard Branson at the Taj Mahal, Cox emphasized that the real success of her project lay in the grassroots support she received from the community. As she returned home, she was celebrated by her local running club, marking the end of a remarkable adventure.
