Hamas has called on President Donald Trump’s newly established “Board of Peace” to intervene and halt what they describe as ongoing violations by Israel in Gaza. This appeal comes as the board prepares for its first formal meeting in Washington, DC, amid escalating tensions in the region. According to Al Jazeera, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem emphasized the dire situation in Gaza, highlighting the ongoing violence, displacement, and humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians.
Since the Hamas-Israel truce deal began on October 10, 2025, more than 600 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, with at least 1,600 others wounded. Qassem pointed out that the situation remains critical, accusing Israel of continuing its campaign of genocide against the Gaza Strip. He urged the Board of Peace to take decisive action to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian aid.
In addition to calling for an end to violence, Hamas has asked for the lifting of the blockade on Gaza and the opening of crossings to enable the entry of reconstruction aid. Qassem warned against using the board as a facade for continued aggression and urged the need for immediate relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of the population.
Recent reports indicate that Israeli military operations continue unabated, with artillery shelling and drone strikes targeting civilians in various areas of Gaza. The United Nations has also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation, stating that less than 60 percent of essential aid from Egypt is making it into Gaza due to Israeli restrictions. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric noted that coordination with Israeli authorities remains a significant obstacle for humanitarian operations.
Trump’s Board of Peace, which was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, originally aimed to oversee the Gaza truce and reconstruction efforts. However, its scope has expanded to include addressing various international conflicts, raising concerns about its potential rivalry with the United Nations. As the board convenes, the future of peace efforts in Gaza remains uncertain, with Hamas urging immediate action to protect its people.
