A funeral has been held in the southern Lebanese village of Saksakiyeh for an 11-year-old boy, Jawad Younes, and his uncle, 41-year-old Ragheb Younes, who were killed in an Israeli air strike. Their family compound was targeted on Friday, prompting a significant outpouring of grief in the community. According to BBC News, this incident is part of a larger offensive against Hezbollah, which has escalated following the group’s rocket fire into Israel earlier this month.

The attack has resulted in over 1,100 casualties since the conflict intensified, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. Hundreds gathered to mourn Jawad and Ragheb, with many expressing their sorrow and anger. Jawad’s mother, Malak Meslmani, described her son as gentle and pure, revealing his aspirations to join the resistance against Israel.

As the funeral procession took place, the sounds of ongoing air strikes echoed around them, a stark reminder of the conflict’s reality. Jawad’s father, Hussein Younes, recounted the moment of the strike, stating that his son had been playing football with his nine cousins when the attack occurred. Family members insisted that they had no ties to Hezbollah and questioned why their home was targeted.

In addition to the Younes family tragedy, another family in the same neighborhood recently buried two children and their mother, victims of similar bombardment. The violence has also claimed the lives of three Lebanese journalists in a separate incident, prompting condemnation from Lebanese officials who called it a violation of protections for media professionals during wartime.

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate, with over one million people displaced due to the ongoing conflict.
