John McAllister, a sports-mad YouTuber from Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, made headlines with his remarkable 24-hour trip to the Winter Olympics in Milan, which cost him just £135. This amount is comparable to attending a local football match featuring Barry Town against Caernarfon in Llandudno.

According to BBC News, McAllister flew to Milan on Sunday to watch Canada compete against France in the men’s ice hockey. He noted that attending the local match would have cost him around £125 for the train and football, excluding food and drink expenses.

The 27-year-old arrived in Milan at 11:00 GMT, captivated by the vibrant atmosphere at the Winter Olympics. He described it as a fantastic experience, with a significant number of Canadian fans present, creating a party-like environment. Canada emerged victorious, defeating France 10-2.

After the match, McAllister took the opportunity to explore the city and enjoy some pizza before heading back to the airport by 23:00. He managed to catch 40 winks before his early morning flight at 06:00. McAllister’s experience highlights the stark contrast in travel costs, suggesting that public transport in the UK is often more expensive.

An avid traveler, McAllister has previously embarked on extensive journeys to watch sports, including a month-long trip to Kazakhstan for a World Cup qualifier. His girlfriend, Beth, sometimes joins him on these adventures but often finds his passion for travel a bit eccentric.
