Cumberland City Council invites the community to come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025 with a FREE, family-friendly event at Central Gardens Nature Reserve, Merrylands West, on Wednesday 9 July from 11am to 2pm.
NAIDOC Week is a national celebration recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme, “Next Generation Dreaming,” calls on all Australians to support the voices, stories and aspirations of young First Nations people as they carry forward cultural traditions and shape a strong future.
Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed said that Council is honoured to host this annual event.
“NAIDOC Week is a time to reflect, learn and stand in solidarity with First Nations communities. This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that the Dreaming is alive and carried forward by the next generation of leaders and knowledge-holders,” said Mayor Hamed.
“We’re proud to offer a space where people of all ages can come together, celebrate culture, and listen to the voices that reflect history as we continue to walk the path of reconciliation and respect.”
The event will feature a rich program of cultural activities and entertainment for the whole family. Attendees can enjoy storytelling, live cultural performances, children and youth activities, local service stalls, sculpture painting, an inspired yarning circle, bead making, bubble soccer, and more.
This year’s NAIDOC Week celebration also marks 50 years of honouring the strength, resilience and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the country. Cumberland City Council encourages all residents to come along, learn, listen, and celebrate the enduring culture and contributions of First Nations peoples.
