According to France 24, Sudan’s army says it has taken control of the Al Sadarat highway after two days of fierce fighting against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The report, issued on July 28, 2026, describes the road as a key military supply route linked to the conflict around El Obeid.

The army said its control of the highway had effectively blocked the siege of El Obeid. The city remains under pressure, however, with hundreds of thousands of people still stuck there, France 24 reported.

In response to the army’s reported advance, the RSF has increased drone strikes on El Obeid, according to the report. France 24 said the conflict over the city was intensifying following the two days of battles.
