ABC Classic is set to mark its 10th anniversary of celebrating music by women with its annual Festival of Female Composers, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The festival will run from March 6 to March 8, 2026, featuring a range of performances and special programming that highlights the contributions of female artists in classical music.

According to ABC News, the festival will include live performances, including a special appearance by the Swedish vocal quartet Åkervinda on March 8. This event will be hosted by presenter Stéphanie Kabanyana Kanyandekwe, showcasing the talent of female composers and performers.

The festival will feature three “super concerts” that compile live recordings from ABC Classic, highlighting remarkable female artists throughout history. Other programming includes a four-hour Hilde-thon dedicated to twelfth-century composer Hildegard von Bingen and various themed shows across the network.

ABC Jazz will also participate in the celebrations with a new compilation release from its Women of Jazz series, featuring contemporary Australian female musicians. Notable performances and discussions will take place throughout March, including tributes to jazz legends and special episodes celebrating women in the genre.

Listeners can expect a rich array of music, from classical to jazz, celebrating the achievements and creativity of women in music. The festival aims to inspire and educate audiences about the important role women have played in the arts, both historically and in contemporary settings.
