The Victorian Government has announced the launch of the 2024-25 Multicultural Media Grants program, aimed at supporting and strengthening the state’s multicultural media organisations. This initiative offers competitive grants of up to $25,000, designed to enhance the services, reach, and capacity of multicultural media outlets across Victoria.

A Platform for Diversity and Growth

Victoria’s multicultural media plays a critical role in maintaining the state’s social cohesion, providing essential information, entertainment, and educational services to diverse communities. Reflecting the voices and experiences of over 300 ancestries, 290 languages, and nearly 200 faiths, these organisations foster a strong sense of connection and inclusion among Victorians, many of whom have roots outside Australia.

The grants program specifically targets projects that will:

• Expand audience reach within multicultural communities.
• Equip staff, volunteers, and young people (aged 18 to 25) with the skills and experience needed for a successful career in media.
• Provide tailored training and development opportunities, helping to foster growth and employability in the multicultural media sector.

Funded projects are required to be delivered between 1 March 2025 and 31 December 2025.

Continuing Commitment to Multicultural Media

The Victorian Government has long recognised the vital role of multicultural media in ensuring that culturally diverse communities remain informed and included. Since 2014, the state has invested more than $4.4 million in this sector, supporting over 100 media organisations to continue their essential work.

The 2024-25 Multicultural Media Grants program will continue this legacy, providing funding for innovative projects that strengthen media services, develop talent within multicultural communities, and create pathways into the media industry.

Applications and Timeline

Applications for the grants are now open and will close on Friday, 8 November 2024. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to drive change and growth within Victoria’s multicultural media, empowering communities and fostering a deeper sense of belonging.
