The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Bankstown Unit is working to boost community preparedness for storms while connecting with culturally

The orange uniform is a familiar sight when disaster strikes but the image of volunteers tackling floodwaters and fires doesn’t

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities and this week, we take the time to thank them for the selfless

Rain, hail or shine, our local SES volunteers are always there to help!
Whether it’s putting their lives on the line during bushfires and flooding, or turning up to a crash scene, the silent “orange” army work tirelessly to keep our community safe.
Their heroic deeds were evident during the severe storms last year.
Among the first responders, they assisted with hundreds of calls for help, door-knocking and evacuating residents in the dead of night and supporting other agencies to clear our streets from fallen power lines and debris.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the many volunteers at the Bankstown and Canterbury SES Units… a group of selfless men and women who put the community first ahead of their own safety.
To show our appreciation, we hosted two barbeques to bring together the local SES teams and, judging by the turnout, they were well received!
Last night, I attended the second of our barbeques at the Canterbury SES headquarters, and personally thanked the volunteers on behalf of our City. Going around and talking to the volunteers, it was clear how passionate they are about helping others and they are incredibly humble about what they do.
It was also an opportunity to recognise those long serving volunteers, who have given up
hours of their time to help those
in need.
Well done to all those who
received special recognition pins
and certificates.
Our local SES heroes deserve our thanks and support, and hosting the barbeques is the least we can do.
But barbeques alone don’t keep
this life saving service afloat, and
we must continue to ensure Governments beef up our emergency services so we can be adequately prepared for whatever mother nature throws at us.
Yours sincerely,
Clr Khal Asfour
