Canterbury-Bankstown Council votes in Bilal El-Hayek as Mayor, Karl Saleh as the Deputy Mayor

Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Election results are now confirmed.

At the first meeting after the election results on 15 October 2024, Bilal El-Hayek was sworn in as the newly elected Mayor of Canterbury-Bankstown. The Deputy Mayor is Karl Saleh OAM.

Mayors elected by councillors normally hold their office for two years.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor, Bilal El-Hayek shared his enthusiasm for the year ahead.“This is a fantastic outcome… the next four years are the most significant in our city’s history,” he said. In his speech, he focused on the upgrades to the T3 Bankstown Line, redevelopment of the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, and the supply of new housing, such as the development of Riverwood Housing Estate.

In addition, the newly elected Deputy Mayor of Canterbury-Bankstown, Karl Saleh, expressed his gratitude and his vision for this next chapter. “I look forward to working with each and every (councillor) to deliver the services and outcomes that the residents of the Bankstown need. They (residents) want us to get to work straight away. We (council) are ready to work for the residents of Canterbury-Bankstown.”
