Industry minister discusses expansion plans with GID Textile Egypt, targets raising exports to $500 million

Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem discussed on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, with Selim Şankaya, CEO of GID Textile Egypt Group, the company’s expansion plans in Egypt and its strategy to boost investments and exports as the company aims to raise its exports to $285 million by the end of 2026.

During a meeting attended by Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs Mohamed Sami and Assistant Minister for Industrial Policies Maha Saleh, the two sides reviewed the group’s current operations in Egypt, where it has been active since 2008.

GID Textile Egypt currently operates three manufacturing facilities in Borg El Arab, 10th of Ramadan City and Ismailia, employing around 15,000 workers.

The discussions also covered the company’s future expansion plans, including increasing production capacities at its existing factories and establishing new facilities to support export-oriented growth.

The strategy further includes the adoption of sustainability and green manufacturing practices, particularly in textile dyeing and the production of advanced fabrics, including high-performance polyester.

Hashem stressed that the spinning, weaving and ready-made garments sector is among the priority industries under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to supporting manufacturers and addressing challenges facing investors.

He noted that strengthening the textile industry would contribute to deepening local manufacturing, increasing domestic value added and enhancing the global competitiveness of Egyptian products.

The minister also welcomed the company’s proposal to attract Turkish firms specializing in textile waste recycling to invest in Egypt, underscoring the ministry’s support for localizing recycling technologies and expanding circular economy practices within the textile sector.

Hashem added that introducing advanced textile recycling technologies would support Egypt’s sustainable development goals and create new investment opportunities, noting the ministry’s readiness to facilitate discussions with specialized international companies interested in the Egyptian market.

For his part, Şankaya said the group aims to increase exports to dlrs 500 million by 2029-2030 through the full utilization of its existing production facilities in Alexandria, 10th of Ramadan City and Ismailia, in addition to the gradual operation of new factories.

He praised the efforts of the Egyptian government and the Ministry of Industry to improve the business environment and support industrial investment, stressing that Egypt serves as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for the group.
